At-a-glance Information:

  • Difficulty: Mixed group. Gounod-level for the higher three parts, the lower four are much easier
  • Technical focus: Blending rhythmic precision with operatic-style melodic flexibility
  • Editing: Professionally engraved parts are well finished, bowed, and fingered
  • Playing time: 2 minutes 40 seconds

Materials and Program Notes: You get

  • Cello I/IIPart (1-page pdf) Gounod's timeless melody is unchanged, but I've added a new (and lower) countermelody. So tightly interwoven are the two lines, so locked in lush musical embrace, that I've engraved them together on a single page for easier reading.
  • Cello III/IV/V Part (2-page pdf) Meet Bach's flashy, refined rhythm section. Played with an easy, sparkling Brazilian lilt, the middle parts of the arrangement cover all of Bach's right-hand piano notes. Three parts engraved together on two pages. Be wary! High notes are prominent in parts III and IV.
  • Cello VI/VII Part (1-page pdf) Bach's left-hand notes lay down an enduring musical foundation. Ringing like great paired churchbells, the sixth and seventh parts launch each new chord, propelling the music forward as his harmonic progression unfolds.
  • Audio Recording (mp4) This recording is also posted on my YouTube channel (go and listen). I've just bundled it here for completeness.

Future access:

  • Full Score: Currently under construction.
  • Alternate Instrumentations: Musical ranges permit many different mixed instrumentations. Ask, and I'll see what I can arrange.
  • Multi-Tracking Guide: Sooner or later, I'll offer a guided tour of what worked (and what didn't) during my adventure of multi-tracking my own audio files at home. What equipment I used, where (and where not) to put it, what software I used, the best order to record your tracks (and why it matters), how insanely much fun the inner parts (unexpectedly) were to play, how to think about Noise levels and other bits of sound engineering. That sort of thing.

About MJPiercello: Hello, Matthew Pierce here! For decades I've made a living behind my cello, mostly in and around orchestras. Concerto soloist or stage manager, principal cellist or sound engineer, luthier or private teacher, I've tried everything (and loved it all). I've taken to Gumroad to write, record, and sell my cello arrangements.

What better way to share the sublime joys of my many musical worlds?
